AUTHORITIES of the Nigeria Police have frowned at a story reported in some sections of the media (Nigerian Tribune not included), that the retired Inspector-General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, delayed handing over to his successor, Mr Solomon Arase.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, in a statement issued in Abuja, frowned on the alleged fake story, saying that the story “has revealed a lot of concocted false stories and mischievous insinuations which serve as misinformation to the public and also put the Nigeria Police and its leadership in a bad light.”

The reporter had written that there was drama at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, as the sacked Inspector-General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, stalled the formal handover to his successor.

The Force said the story in its entirety was completely false, as there was nothing of such that occurred.

It said the invitation sent out regarding the handing over ceremony was sent out at 1.44 p.m on Wednesday, through sms stating commencement of event for 3.00 p.m. of same day.

The statement also added that as against the published story that Abba had removed all his personal belongings before leaving office around 11.20 p.m, the retired IGP since closed from office on Tuesday, long before the time stated in the report.
