At least 40 people were killed in Mexico when two powerful storms rocked the country simultaneously at the east and west parts, CEOAFRICA.com gathered.
The disaster referred to as “Hurricane Ingrid” killed twenty-two people in the Guerrero, Hidalgo, Puebla and Oaxaca states, before moving down to Pacific coast where severa people were rendered homeless and another 20 killed. It is dumping torrential rains as it moves west-northwest through Tamaulipas state at a speed of 13km/h (8mph).
Some 6,000 people were evacuated as the category one hurricane approached the coast while Celebrations marking Mexico's independence day were cancelled in many coastal towns.
The last time the country was hit by two tropical storms in the span of 24 hours was in 1958. Rescue services are looking for survivors.
