MDC-T Candidate Won Harare Mayor Election in Zimbabwe

From Harare, CEOAFRICA gathered that a new mayor has been elected for Harare following the release of results for the election which was held in choosing a new man in charge of Zimbabwe’s capital city.

The newly elected mayor is Bernard Manyeyeni, a 48-year old General Manager with an Insurance firm. He would be debutised by Thomas Muzuva.

Manyenyeni will replace former mayor, Muchadeyi Masunda, a lawyer who would step down soon. He is a member of the opposition MDC-T, he defeated ZANU PF rival Beadle Gwasira.

Also, in the city of Bulawayo, another MDC-T candidate, Martin Moyo, was elected the new mayor of the city. Moyo, an insurance broker with Old Mutual will have Gift Banda, another MDC-T local businessman as his deputy.

The new mayors and their deputies have all been chosen from a pool of elected councilors, contrary to reports that they were going to be chosen from those that did not contest the councillorship election.
