VISIT OF NEW PDP DELEGATE CAUSES FRACAS AT THE HOUSE OF REP

The House of Representatives on Tuesday was turn into a fighting ground as some members of Tukur-led PDP tried to protest the recognition of the Baraje-led PDP.

CEOAFRICA news desk gathered that the pioneer members of the New PDP members namely Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto); Babangida Aliyu (Niger); Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano); Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers); Sule Lamido (Jigawa); Murtala Nyako (Adamawa); and Abdul-Fatai Ahmed (Kwara) arrived the House in the company of the National Chairman of the New PDP, Alhaji Abubakar Baraje.

According to the report, the Speaker of the house, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal and other principal officers had received the visitors, but that some members of the Tukur-led PDP vehemently protested when Baraje was asked to state the purpose of their visit.

Some Loyalist of the Tukur-led PDP who maintained that it is an act of illegality to allow the “rebels” an audience in the platform made sure they drowned the speech by the their counterpart with suppressive shouts of “point of order”, “point of order”.

A member of the House from Bayelsa State, Mr. Henry Ofongo, was said to have led the protest along with Betty Apiafi (Rivers); Bethel Amadi (Imo); Kingsley Chinda (Rivers); Bitrus Kaze (Plateau), charging in the direction of the high table in a bid to register their protest.

Afonjo who insisted the meeting must not hold because he did not believe that many of the people at the venue were PDP members was shoved and thrown punches at in the process by the pro-Baraje members in a bid to stop him while Afongo was said to have responded with punches too.

Baraje who spoke to the news men after the fracas revealed that they decided to visit the Senate leaders because of its strategic importance in the resolution of the PDP crisis.

Tambuwal deliberating on the scene berated politicians for being on a voyage to destroy democracy, stating that self-interest, rather than the welfare of the majority of Nigerians, was uppermost in the minds of politicians.

Tambuwal who highlighted that many people died fighting for democracy, further stated that Nigerians must preserve democracy by conducting themselves according to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, abstaining from heating up the polity unnecessarily because of our personal ambitions.
