Lawmakers of the 8th state House of Assembly in Oyo State have passed their first executive bill on revenue law to help boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.

It is anticipated that once the bill gets the assent of the Executive Governor of the State, it would give the state government the opportunity to put in place a revenue board that would help find ways of generating more revenue into the coffers of the state.

A motion was also passed on the floor of the House on the indiscriminate change and introduction of textbooks in public and private schools. It was observed that textbooks used in private schools in the state are different from the ones recommended in public schools.

This has been noticed to be a deviation from the norm in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s when all schools in the state used the same textbooks.

The motion seeks to determine whether there is any regulation or guideline that allows the proprietors of private schools to recommend textbooks on own volition.

It was unanimously agreed on the floor of the House that stakeholders in the Ministry of Education and the State Universal Education Board should be invited to the House for more enlightenment. The two agencies, being stakeholders in the education sector, are expected to appear on the floor of the House on June 30, when the next sitting will take place.

It is expected that the two bodies shall be giving reasons for the factors responsible for the incessant change and the reproduction of textual materials being used by pupils of both primary and secondary schools in the state and how uniformity can be attained.
