A former lecturer of the University of Ibadan, Mrs. Anuoluwa Iyanu has alerted the authorities of the University of Ibadan of the mistaken N487, 901.91 she discovered in her account.

According to the letter which was addressed to the Deputy Bursar, Mr. Michael Alatishe, Mrs. Iyanu who revealed to have resigned from the University since 1999 said that she is currently out of the country but will make arrangement to return the money to the University.

Reacting to this rare honesty, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Isaac Folorunso Adewole, described Mrs Iyanu, as a honest person whose action deserved public commendation and emulation.

He noted that since no one was above mistake, that it is expected of people to do what Mrs. Iyanu has done when money was mistakenly paid into their account, stressing that the beneficiary would suffer embarrassment that money cannot remove if such money is later discovered.

Commending Mrs Iyanu, the UI boss thanked the ex-lecturer for not regarding the money as miracle as her name implies, but rather, choosing the path of honour by alerting the bursary, asserting that this is the kind of honest attitude that Nigeria needs.

Professor Adewole however advised youths to emulate the honest attitude of the former lecturer, indicating that good name is better than riches, more importantly, youths must shun get rich quick mentality.
