No fewer than two people died in a two-day persistent rainfall in Ibadan, Oyo State as against nine. The state police command who confirmed the death in Ibadan on Tuesday the victims were an elderly man and motorcycle operator.
The command's image maker, Olabisi Ilobanafor said the victims were swept away at Lad Hospital junction at Challenge, Ibadan.
She explained that the elderly man was swept away when he fell and hit his on the block.She added that the man died on the spot while the motorcyclist was swept only for his body to surface around 2:00am.She said the passenger was rescued and taken to the hospital.
But for the timely intervention of the police, the casualty would have been more.The rain started around 9pm on Sunday and fell heavily throughout the night. According to information gathered the areas mostly affected are in Oluyole Local Government area of the state. As at 5:54pm yesterday, the rain was still drizzling.The impact of the flood was noticeable at I, Arapaja, Akala new extension, Lad Hospital area where some people were said to have been deceived by the flood covering a collapsed bridge and fell into the ravaging flood.
CEOAFRICA news gathered that some commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators who were not aware that the bridge had caved in fell into the flowing erosion and were swept away.
A source from Oyo state fire service department said only two persons were affected and that when they were informed, their men went for their rescue.
