Local Government Election Fixed For December 28 in Yobe State

From Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, CEOAFRICA.com gathered that the State’s Independent Electoral Commission has announced December 28, 2013 as the day for the much anticipated local government election, first of its kind since 2009.

It was also revealed that collection of nominations forms will begin on October 4, to October 14, 2013.

Speaking about his commission’s level of preparedness, the Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, Mohammed Jauro Abdou, stated that the commission will play a fair and objective role towards the success of election, as he called on the people of the state to give peace a chance so as to ensure a peaceful exercise.

The Yobe SIEC Chairman also made it known that parties that fails to purchase nomination form before the deadline date would be omitted from the ballot paper, as only seven political parties are eligible to contest for the election for now. The list of screened candidates will be released on the 6th of December.
