Speaking with newsmen on Tuesday, the Parish Council Chairman, Adolphus Ogbonna, said the parishioners were in sorrow over the senseless abduction of their parish priest.
“We have heard the news of the kidnap of our parish priest. Some people said he was kidnapped around Owerri, while others claim he was kidnapped in our community.
Although it was not clear at press time, the exact location where the priest was picked up by the yet to be identified hoodlums, however feelers from town indicated that his abductors had made an initial contact with his close relations and demanded N5 million ransom.
CEOAFRICA gathered that the priest, who is the first vicar of the parish, resumed duties on November 2014, when the parish was created and inaugurated by the Catholic Bishop of Orlu Diocese, Most Rev, Dr. Augustine Ukwuoma.
However , when contacted on phone the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Enwerem claimed ignorance of the story but assured that the police would dig deep to ascertain the authenticity of the information.
