
AIRTEL adopts Kwara school, kits 400 pupils

AS part of its social responsibility, Airtel Nigeria Limited has adopted Iyeru Okin Primary School 1, in Offa local government area of Kwara State under which 400 pupils were kitted with school uniforms, bags, books and writing materials.
Also, the company sunk boreholes and rehabilitated 3 blocks of 8 classrooms comprising three offices while 48 set of furniture were provided for pupils and 8 sets for teachers.
It also constructed male and female toilets and as well installed library facilities including lap tops to the school.
Speaking at the presentation of the facilities to the state government, the company's Chief Executive Executive Officer, Mr. Segun Ogunsanya said this brought to five of the total number of schools so far adopted by the communication service provider under it adopt a school programme in Lagos, Ogun, Cross River, Imo and Kwara states
He said Airtel adopted the initiative so to provide “enable environment for pupils to learn and grow.”
Represented by the company’s Chief Sale Officer, Mr. Godfery Eferbo, Ogunsanya said: “Airtel will continue to support the school as long as it exist because government alone cannot bring forth the change we desire.”
In his speech at the occasion, the state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed announced that the state government will construct 2000 new classrooms across the state.
The plan, Ahmed said, had been encapsulated in strategic programme of the government, adding that it would also see to the rehabilitation of 1000 existing classrooms.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Alhaji Lamidi Alabi, the Governor praised Airtel management for complementing government’s efforts at providing quality education and infrastructure and solicited the support of the people and corporate citizens in the present administration’s infrastructural development drive.
“In line with our determination, I will soon outline our strategic programme for the socio-economic and infrastructural development of our state. In the educational sector, these will include the construction of 2000 new classrooms and the rehabilitation of 1000 existing classrooms across the state as well as the establishment of two new campuses for the Kwara State University.
“Apart from ensuring that our children study in a more conducive atmosphere, the forthcoming projects will boost the informal sector, stimulate jobs and economic activities across the state,” he said.
