
Abadoned Corpse at Ikire Community, Irewole LGA OF Osun State, Nigeria of the West African Continent
The people of Ikire community, Irewole Local Government area of Osun State have cried out over the fear of epidemic outbreak of a decomposing corpse abandoned on the roadside at Naira&Kobo area of the town.
Residents of the area said the corpse had been dumped there by unknown person for the past two weeks and that it was reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ikire and the local government authority.
Speaking with CEOAFRICA correspondent, Mr Kazeem Adejoju and Mr Tajudeen Iwalesin expressed worry over the smell that is coming out from the corpse which might cause a disease out brake in the town. Both of them however appealed to concerned authorities to evacuate the corpse to prevent outbreak of epidemic in the area.
“When we saw the corpse, we reported to the police and local government immediately but we are surprised that they fail to evacuate the dead body since two weeks ago and you can perceive the unpleasant odour from the corpse”, Adepoju said.
In his own comment Iwalesin said “we are very surprised that the local government could allow this corpse to remain here for two weeks and we are worried that the corpse may continue to remain here. If the corpse is not evacuated, people may contact disease from it and the disease may continue to spread from here”.
The President of Students Association at the Ikire campus of Osun State University, Comrade Abubakar Basit also said the students were worried over the continued presence of the abandoned corpse and appealed to the local government authority to evacuate the corpse before it cause epidemic in Ikire.
When CEOAFRICA correspondent visited the secretariat of Irewole Local Government, was told that the workers are on strike and the Executive Secretary of Irewole LG; Prince Olusoji Ajayi could not be reached.
In a chat with CEOAFRICA correspondent, the Divisional Police Officer in Ikire, Mr Victor Chilaka told CEOAFRICA that he would mount pressure on the local government Chairman to ensure the immediate evacuation of the decomposed corpse.
