The negative aspect of the media on child

Teniola is a 10-year old boy, who derives pleasure in watching action films. Overtime, he successfully inculcated the tricks in these movies and occasionally practices it with his siblings.

Teni spent most of his time monitoring TV programmes and watching movies before recently corrected by parents.

Of course, he is brilliant and has learnt a lot through the capability of media to successfully deliver its cogent roles; in educating, informing and entertaining.

On the other hand, Teniola has also imbibed the violent behaviour he sees in these movies and though his violent behaviour has reduced having being stopped from watching these movies, but it hasn’t been totally eliminated.

Apparently, media could be as productive as implicating; it could be productive when viewers tend to respond to its messages positively and could be implicating as well if the messages are being translated or responded to negatively.

In no doubt, media has been helpful in disseminating vital information in creating awareness and brooding people’s view on issues, particularly for younger ones; they tend to know history which are better viewed than heard.

Moreover, violence in media should be scrutinised, as media doesn’t only bring gains without its pains as leftovers. Over the years, aspersions have been cast on media been the catalyst for violent behaviour in kids, but I will rather say, media should be seen as a reinforcement device, which only brings out the ‘devil’ in a child.

Furthermore, majority of the preferences of young people to view in media outlets contain violence, which is learning instrument and machines teaching them in the most incredible manner what it is like to pull the trigger of a gun.

Media as a powerful agent could engender aggressive behaviour and lead to real life aggression, which is a big influence on the way children act and behave because after they watch aggressive movies, they begin to practise exactly what they have seen, thereby, thinking of criminals as powerful role models and neglect the fact that it is just a movie.

Media has been damaging to most children in this century, reason being that they watch with their minds open to imitate whatever they watch. They are not conscious of the implication and effect of some programmes in the media.

Perhaps, it doesn’t only trigger their violent behaviour, but also make them to spend so much time, thereby neglecting school work.

It is thereby exceptional for parents and sponsors to relinquish proper monitoring to wards in order to envisage the risks of exposure to violence and discern which media messages are suitable for the wards.
