Boboye said the weeklong operations; tagged "Operation Scorpion" was focused on trailers and truck drivers so as to ensure they obey all the driving rules and regulations.

"The main focus of the programme was on the trailers and tankers to ensure full enforcement in compliance with appropriate national road traffic regulations.

"This is also to ensure that the container or load carried, bad tyres and head lamps are in conformity with the appropriate way it should be done," he said.

Boboye said that the commission was also enforcing the age limit of trailer and truck drivers to 26 years old according to the traffic regulatory body. He also added that the arrested violators’ punishments were not only based on fines but to serve as corrective measures to them.

"We are going to sustain this enforcement until they all comply fully," he said.

The FRSC boss also reiterated that any commercial vehicles that do not have the speed limit device by September, 1 2015 would be sanctioned according to the law.

Boboye said the commission has reached out to the various unions in charge of commercial vehicles to educate all their members on speed limit device before the commencement of the enforcement.

"The duty of the FRSC is to ensure that all commercial vehicles are carrying a speed limit device in their vehicles by September.

I have met with all their various union chairmen and stakeholders and they said we are free to go on with the enforcement. "This is to ensure that drivers control their speed while driving hence the safety of passengers traveling with commercial vehicles.

We have existing laws and all we are doing is evoking all the enforcement already in the regulations to ensure the lives of travellers are saved,"Boboye said.
