
Mrs. Helen Elinewinga; a member of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) who was among the party's 38 presidential candidates, has lost her bid to become a Special Seats Member of Parliament (MP).
She was defeated by Mrs. Shally Raymond, the chairperson of the Board of the Moshi Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Authority.
Mrs. Elinewinga got 31 while the winner collected 504 votes. Mrs. Elinewinga happened to be one of the few CCM female presidential contenders, a position which was won by Works Minister, Dr John Magufuli, last month in Dodoma.
Returning Officer, Mr Loth Ole Nessele, said Ms Raymond also defeated out-going Special Seats legislator, Ms Betty Machangu, who got 409 votes.
The election also attracted CCM's Women Wing (UWT) Regional Chairperson, Mrs. Zuena Bushiri, who collected 100 votes.
Mr Nassele, former Deputy Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, Mrs. Ritha Mlaki, emerged victorious to represent civil society organisations as Special Seats MP. Mrs. Mlaki got 523 votes while another contender Ms Flora Mswia collected 45 votes.
A member of the dissolved Constituent Assembly, Mrs. Faustina Urassa, was defeated by Mrs. Elizabeth Msaki in her quest to become Special Seats lawmaker on the ticket of the disabled.
She got 44 votes while the winner collected 377. Mrs. Pamela Mallya of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) was elected unopposed as she garnered 559 votes to represent workers as Special Seats MP.
Mrs. Esther Mmasy was nominated to represent universities as Special Seats legislator. She collected 226 votes to defeat her opponent, Mrs. Janeikunda Rimoy who got 199.
