THE Executive Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, has assured workers in the State that all outstanding salaries will be paid within the next two-three months.

He added that his government is working hard to ensure that the salaries are not only paid but that such unfortunate experience will not re-occur in the state, with his new drive to improve the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.

Senior Special Assistant, SSA, to the Governor on Media and Communications, Dr. Femi Akorede revealed this on a radio program today in Ilorin.Dr. Akorede said that the governor is aware of the challenges workers in the State have had to overcome, whilst also thanking them for their understanding.

“We do not want to provide just a palliative to this national problem, because we have discovered that this will not suffice.A holistic approach is needed, and this is why we have decided to improve the process of revenue collection in the state.”Akorede added “Governor Ahmed is pained that though our people are paying taxes, the revenue collection process is encumbered by inefficiencies, limiting monthly generation to between N600-N800 Million monthly.

As a result, in our bid to streamline losses, the new Kwara State Internal Revenue Service, KSIRS, was established, and will be strengthened to generate a monthly IGR of at least N2.5Billion”.This, he said, will not only help the State pay Salaries as at when due, but also will have a multiplier effect on the state’s economy, as well as the monthly allocation from the Federated Accounts Allocation Committee, FAAC.
