The Nigeria national women’s team, the Super Falcons have been knocked out in the race for qualification for Rio 2016 Olympic Games after they lost 2-1 to Equatorial Guinea on Sunday in Bata.

The Nigerian women had only managed a 1-1 draw in the first leg two weeks ago in Abuja and Sunday’s defeat meant they have been edged out on a 3-2 aggregate score line.

Ngozi Okobi had initially put Nigeria in the lead in Sunday’s away game but the Equatorial Guineans rallied up for two late goals which has help kept their hopes for Olympic qualification on course.

The Super Falcons failed to live up to their billing at the last Women’s World Cup in Canada and many were hopeful that they would make amends at the Rio Olympics

Having now been knocked out, Nigeria will now be watched from the sidelines, the same way it did during the London Olympics.
