
The African Union military warplanes launched deadly airstrikes against Al Shabab camps near Elbuur town in central Somalia, officials said on Thursday.
The bombardment happened in Warhole village near Elbuur town, controlling under Somalia troops, alongside African Union (AMISOM) peacekeeping forces, battling Al Shabab.
Somalia's Elbuur district commissioner, Nur Hassan Guutaale said that AMISOM warplanes had targeted and destroyed Al Shabab camps in the town. Mr. Hassan said several Al Shabab insurgents had also been killed and injured in the air-raids launched AMISOM military fighter jets.
The Islamist insurgents fled from several bases amid African Union forces from Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda fighting against Al Shabaab.
