FG TRAINS 120 FARMERS TO ENHANCE SOGHUM PRODUCTION

The Federal Government has organized a three day workshop for 120 farmers from six states of the North-East region to improve sorghum production in the country.

According to Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Ibukun Odusote who was represented by Mr. Johnson Waziri at the opening ceremony of the workshop yesterday in Bauchi, the workshop is on agronomics and techniques of handling improved high yielding sorghum varieties for maximum productivity.

Desk Officer of the Sorghum Value Chain, Mr. Okpara John Obinna disclosed that the Federal Government is targeting 100,000 farmers for the project and has already distributed improved sorghum seeds and fertilizer to farmers.

Mr. Okpara stated however that the need for enhanced production came at the discovery that industries across the world are in need of sorghum, adding that the training will enhance production.
