As the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is putting everything in shape for the preparation of Super Eagles’ crucial 2014 World Cup qualification Playoff, the General Secretary of the body has declared that the target of the football body is to surpass the previous record set by African countries at any World Cup.

Musa Amadu disclosed that the NFF is targeting Semi-Finals for the African Champions at the World Cup in Brazil next year.

The NFF Scribe made this known while receiving members of the House of Representative Committee on Sports at the Glass House as part of their oversight functions.

He urged that good and timely financial package from the government would help the team to achieve this feat.
”Honestly, if we get the right funding, Nigeria will surprise the world in Brazil next year. Right now, coach Stephen Keshi and his boys have hit the right chord, all they need now is just for the federation to complement this with adequate funding; you can then watch the Super Eagles to do wonder next year,” he stressed.

”We want to go beyond the quarter final stage and this is achievable.”

Responding, the leadership of the House Committee on Sports promised to enhance the budgetary package next year to ensure good preparation for the team if they eventually make it to Brazil next year.

Since the maiden edition in 1930, no African representatives have gone beyond the quarter final stage. Cameroun’s quartet final ticket in Italian 90, Senegal at Korea/Japan 2002, and Ghana at South Africa 2010 posed the best record of African countries at the global soccer fiesta so far.

Super Eagles of Nigeria have not gone beyond the round of 16 before, having participated at the USA 94, France 98, Korea/Japan 2002, and South Africa 2010 editions.
