Presidential candidate for Coalition of Defenders of People's Constitution (Ukawa); Mr Edward Lowassa, will pick presidential nomination forms today from the National Electoral Commission (NEC) in Dar es Salaam, it was disclosed.
Mr Lowassa and his Ukawa followers will be at the NEC offices at 9 am, Chadema Acting Secretary General, Mr Salum Mwalimu, said.
He further said the delegation will meet at the offices of the opposition Civic United Front (CUF) early in the morning before proceeding to the NEC offices to pick up the presidential forms.
"We expect to have a huge turnout of followers who'll escort the presidential candidate to NEC offices," he said. After picking the forms, Mr Mwalimu said Mr Lowassa and his supporters will head to Chadema head office at Kinondoni.
"Mr Lowassa will then have the responsibility of collecting signatures from sponsors in the regions," he explained. "We're still thinking which regions the presidential candidate should visit to seek signatures as we are overwhelmed by the requests.
However, we'll soon announce the names of those regions," he noted. Mr Lowassa's tour to seek sponsors will begin on August 14 after the coalition announces names of the regions to be visited.
Meanwhile, Chadema has completed demarcating election constituencies, including the 26 new ones announced recently by NEC.
