
A compromise has been struck among tourism stakeholders in Kilimanjaro Region over the rights of tour guides and porters who operate in the region.
Tour guides, porters, cooks and tourism agents met with senior officials from in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism and Ministry of Labour and Employment senior officials to seek an amicable solution on the entitlements of the former groups.
Kilimanjaro Guides Association (KGA) Chairman, Mr Respicius Baitwa, said here that it was agreed that within 60 days the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism should ensure rightful entitlements were paid to the members.
Mr Baitwa said senior government officers in attendance during the meeting included Permanent Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Mr Adelhelm Meru and Labour Commissioner, Mr Sauli Kinemela.
"At last we have reached an agreement that in 60 days the responsible ministry should ensure everything is in order and also deter unregistered tourism agents from involving themselves in the business," said KGA Secretary General, Mr James Mong'ateko
