
Over one million people have been registered in the Biometric Voter Registration in Dodoma Region.
"We're happy with the public response towards registration. It shows that people are aware of their rights and that they'll turn up during voting day," Mr Paul Ngussa said.
Mr Paul Ngussa who is the region's election coordinator further said that 1,053,136 (102.72 per cent) have been registered compared to the target of 1,025,084.He disclosed that said the exercise had such challenges as shortage of registration officers and the breakdown of the machines, which slowed slowing the process.
The number of registered people per constituency is as follows: Bahi - 113,736, Chilonwa - 76,994, Mtera - 91,630, Dodoma Urban - 247,531, Kibakwe - 75,531, Mpwapwa - 79,342, Kondoa North - 137,523, Chemba - 121,568, and Kongwa -154,501.
Also shortage of BVR machines compelled people to wait for quite long including the lack of electricity in villages.
Meanwhile, the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) has been advised to deploy its officers in all corners of the country to nab corrupt element during the elections.
The advice was made in Dar es Salaam yesterday by Director of the Kigamboni Youth Empowerment and Livelihood Improvement Mr Living Alexander during a youth dialogue held in Temeke District.
He said if the corrupt practices experienced during the preferential polls are anything to go by, then PCCB must be prepare to handle such cases during campaigns and election day.
PCCB Temeke District officer Mr Lucas Swebe urged the public to elect competent leaders and abandon corrupt ones.
