Sodiq Aremu has given the assurance that Enugu Rangers wouldbreak its 31-year jinx by emerging as champions of the 2015 Federation Cup after picking a semifinal ticket on Wednesday evening.
The Flying Antelopes cruised past El Kanemi in style with an emphatic 3-0 victory in a quarter final encounter played in Abuja.
The team will face Lobi Stars for a chance to challenge for the title.
The former Team 360 midfielder who has played key role in Imama Amapakabo’s side this season insists Enugu Rangers are determined to rewrite their history by lifting the oldest football competition in the country and also try to make it a double by winning the NPFL title.
“The atmosphere in camp is very cool and everyone is celebrating our ticket to the semifinal of the Federation Cup,” Aremu said.
“It has been so long we reached this stage and I want to assure you that this time around we won’t let this opportunity slip away.
“We are motivated to emerge as champions because we want to break the yoke of not winning any trophy for over three decades.
He also assured the Flying Antelopes will go at any length to tame Lobi Stars in the last four of the competition.
“Lobi Stars are a very strong team no doubt, but having reached this far I don’t see them stopping us from reaching the final,” he continued.
“My teammates know what is at stake and we are definitely going for the ultimate prize.
“We are not losing our sleeps too on winning the Nigeria Professional Football League title because we are in a better position on the log and we can go for a double this season,” he concluded.
Enugu Rangers have won the Federation Cup title five times, a feat they achieved in 1974, 1975, 1977, 1981, 1982 and 1984.
