
National Treasury Cabinet secretary Henry Rotich and the Japan International Cooperation Agency will today sign a Sh3.2 billion health sector loan for the Attainment of Universal Health Coverage, JICA Kenya office has said.
The CS will also sign the exchange of notes programme with the Japanese Ambassador to Kenya, the agency added.
"This loan was officially pledged on March 13 in Tokyo by Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe on the occasion of President Uhuru Kenyatta's visit to Japan to participate in the third UN world conference on disaster risk reduction," it said.
The agency said the loan is expected to contribute to strengthening health system for UHC - health service delivery, health workforce, health information systems, access to essential medicines, health financing, and leadership and governance in Kenya.
"The loan disbursement will be made in two tranches with the achievement of key health policy and programme actions agreed upon by two countries," it said.
