The leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State on Sunday bemoaned former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala over roles in the election of President Goodluck Jonathan in 211.

Apparently reacting to a statement credited to former governor Alao-Akala that he won the 2011 presidential election for Goodluck Jonathan  without the inputs of some of the leaders of  the party leaders in a statement signed by Senator Lekan Balogun, described it as jaundice and absolute misinformation.

Akala had been quoted in a newspaper report that the likes of Senator Lekan Balogun, Chief Yekeen Adeojo, Senator Teslim Folarin and others were nowhere to be found when he (Akala) won the state as a sitting governor for President Jonathan. In a swift reaction, the leaders accused the former governor of standing the truth on its feet by such claim.

While asking the former governor why he could not win the same election for himself if the inputs of the party chieftains as claimed by him were of insignificance, Balogun disclosed that President Jonathan himself and other national leaders of the party knew and were aware of their contributions to the success of the party at the presidential poll.

It was recalled that President had been warned at a meeting he held with some of the leaders of the party in the state in Lagos months before the election that should the party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) insist on fielding Akala as its gubernatorial candidate for the 2011, the party would lose Oyo State but would vote for the president, which was exactly what happened.

On the stakeholders meeting held two Sundays ago at the Premier Hotel, Ibadan, the statement averred that Balogun initiated the meeting during his visit to Akala in his Ibadan residence as part of his (Balogun) efforts for total and genuine reconciliation, but, that was not agreed upon.

“But, typical of Akala as he was doing while in office as the governor, he hijacked the process and the so-called stakeholders meeting turned out to become a get-together jamboree of factional hustlers. “As mature elders of the party, we are fundamentally and ideologically committed to the unity of the party in the state, which is why we will not want to remind the

public of similar misdeeds of Akala that led to the collapse of the party in the state while he was the governor," part of the statement read.

They however said "we are concerned about the correctness of the cause of Mr.

President against the rebellious members of the party popularly referred to as G.7 and this we have never been quiet about in our writings and speeches at any given opportunity.” The former governor was also asked to tell the public when exactly did he return from Accord Party to the PDP which cause he now claims to be championing, adding, “as elders of the party, we are interested in the unity of the party in the state, but the former governor should stop falsifying the historical process of the party.”
