It was a bright weekend in the Glo Premier League as 28 goals were plundered over Saturday and Sunday with title contenders Sunshine Stars and defending champions, Kano Pillars wining with big margins against Giwa FC and Shooting Stars respectively.
The two games on Saturday, may have produced scant talking points in terms of goals scored, the following day, Sunday, witnessed a rush of goals including a hat-trick from Sunshine Stars winger, Prince Aggreh, who fired his team back to top spot once again as the cat and mouse situation continue at the summit of the league between the Akure club and Enyimba, who were held 1-1 at Bayelsa United a day earlier despite going into the lead through Sikiru Kamal before Raphael Onwurebe's strike meant they shared the points.
Match Day 23 certainly belonged to Kano Pillars and Sunshine Stars for blowing apart their opponents in a blitz of goals.
In Akure, Aggreh plundered a second half hat-trick in the space of 40 minutes sandwiched by Stephen Eze's goal to humiliate Giwa FC 4-0 at the Akure Stadium.
Sunshine Stars take their points total to 42 points at the top of the ranking but have second-placed Enyimba hot on their heels by a point less.
At the Sani Abacha Stadium, high-flying Shooting Stars were brought down to earth by Kano Pillars who had four different goalscorers in Adamu Mohammed, Ubong Ekpai, Tony Edjomariegwe and Rabiu Ali before Ajani Ibrahim netted a consolation for Gbenga Ogunbote's side on a day they will want to forget in a hurry.
Akwa United also dispatched Sharks at the Nest of Champions, Uyo by 3-1. Two goals from Aniekpeno Udoh and one from Bawa Aliyu Bawa made Christian Pyagbara's goal from the spot look elementary.
The other Port Harcourt club, Dolphins, also suffered a one-goal loss to Warri Wolves on the road to deepen their relegation woes. Azubuike Egwuekwe headed in the winning goal for Wolves.
Quickfire goals in the second half from Azango Philip and Babangida Shaibu helped Nasarawa United inflict a 2-0 defeat on Heartland who finished the game with 10 men after Fortune Omoniwari pushed his fortunes too far by poking one of his fingers into the face of an opponent and that earned him a straight red card.
In-form Lobi Stars striker, Anthony Okpotu, saved the day for his team as he scored twice to cancel a first goal by Stephen Adah which gave FC Taraba a shock 1-0 win at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi. Lobi won the game 2-1 to ease their relegation worries.
And saving the best for the last, Wikki Tourists stun Kwara United in Ilorin with a 73rd winning goal by Godwin Obaje to win 1-0 and claim a fifth away win of the season.
Rangers suffered a 3-2 home loss to FC Ifeanyiubah. Goals by Onoriode Odah and Godwin Aguda were not enough as Chukwudi Stephen, Austin Oladapo and Okereke Maduabuchi got among the goals to help Ifeanyiubah claim their second away win of the season.
