PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe has gazetted terminal benefits and allowances for former vice President Joice Mujuru and all those to follow after her, as the Zanu PF leader moves to pacify his bitter rival.
Mujuru, the country's only surviving former vice president will, among other things, get a state of the art Mercedes Benz, two state security aides, an aide de-camp, two state drivers, state covered medical aide and pensions on top the constitutionally guaranteed salary equivalent to that of a sitting vice president.
In an extra-ordinary statutory instrument gazetted August 7 2015, Mugabe stated that any former vice president who has served at least one term since 1987 shall receive a state paid domestic worker, a gardener as well as a private secretary and a functioning state office with a state paid telephone.
"A former vice president who served at least a complete term of office shall receive among other benefits. ...Mercedes Benz, medical aid cover and pension," reads part of the statutory instrument.
Mujuru was kicked out of government in December last year and subsequently from the Zanu PF party in May after being accused of plotting to topple Mugabe as well as leading a faction that was working against the 91-year old leader.
She was replaced by Emmerson Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko.
Since Independence, all the country's vice presidents, from Joshua Nkomo, Simon Muzenda, Joseph Msika up to John Nkomo, have all died.
Mujuru, appointed in 2004, is the only one who is still alive.
Politically, she is the only VP who has been kicked out of government as all the former have died in office and had no known issues with Mugabe.
Mujuru has been linked to a formation of a splitter movement called People First which has former Zanu PF heavyweights such as Didymus Mutasa, Rugare Gumbo and Dzikamai Mavhaire.
She was fired from government alongside a host of cabinet ministers such as Webster Shamu, Olivia Muchena, Francis Nhema and Nicholas Goche among others.
Most of the former ministers have been kicked out of Zanu PF while others have been suspended for varying years for allegedly working with Mujuru.
