Huge explosions rocked a police building in Cairo, the capital of Egypt on Thursday.

According the reports, the officials could not immediately confirm if the explosions had caused any casualties.

The blasts came in the middle of the night, as Egyptian security forces are being targeted by Islamic State jihadists waging an Islamist insurgency.

“An attack targeted a state security building,” a security official told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity.

“The explosion partially destroyed the building,” said a colleague.

The explosions have damaged buildings and vehicles and shattered window panes, a security source also told Al-Ahram’s Arabic website.
