The Oyo State Government has stopped the payment of the West Africa Examination Council registration fees for candidates in public secondary schools in the state, thereby, charging pupils N3, 000.
This was disclosed in a statement by the state’s Head of Service, Mr Soji Eniade on Wednesday.
The statement indicated that the directive tagged ‘Education Development Levy’ would take effect from the 2015/2016 academic session, blaming the present economic situation for the decision.
It stated that pupils in secondary schools in the state would start paying N3, 000 per session, which will be paid in installments of N1, 000 every term.
The statement added that the levy would complement the state government’s effort towards improving on the infrastructure of public secondary schools.
However, with the aim of fostering administration and management of public secondary schools in the state, the statement said the government had completed plans to partner with interested stakeholders.
