KWHA summons authority on regulation enforcement

The Kwara State House of Assembly has summoned the state’s Town Planning and Development Authority to explain the reason behind its non-enforcement of town planning regulations in towns and cities of the state.

This followed the resolutions of the House of Assembly after considering a motion sponsored by a member representing Ilorin Central Constuency, Hajia Segilola AbdulKadir, tagged ‘Conversion of Residential Buildings to Hotels, club Houses and beer parlours'.

The Speaker, Dr Ali Ahmad, while reading the resolutions of the House, noted with displeasure that the in-enforcement of the town planning regulations had led to disorderliness of towns and cities in the state.

The House equally en-joined the Authority to bring to its responsibility to bear by ensuring that residential buildings are not inappropriately converted to event centres without necessary approvals and taking into consideration the public nuisance and security implications that such places would pose to residents.

Hajia Abdul Kadir had observed in her motion that the town planning and development authority, which was charged with the responsibility of controlling, regulating and maintaining all laws guiding the physical planning of the state, to ensure healthy development of settlements and communities have become ineffective.

She also maintained that the indiscriminate conversion and distortion of environmental planning as well as the master plan of cities in the State had resulted into security and social problems to other residents in the affected areas.

Other members who spoke on the motion noted with displeasure that the authority had overstretched the patient of the people of the state, saying that the authority had caused numerous problems for government and the people of the State to content with.

Meanwhile, Dr Ahmad has commiserated with the members of the Kogi State House of Assembly, people and government of the state over the sudden death of the clerk of the House, Barr. Peter Willy and two others.

Dr Ahmad in a statement revealed that the clerk designate, passed on at a time when his service was needed most.

The Speaker, while condoling the Kogi State House of Assembly, his immediate family, government and people of Kogi State over the demise, prayed that God should grant the departed souls eternal rest and the people and government of the Confluence State the fortitude to bear the great losses.

Barrister Willy and his two other colleagues died in a ghastly motor accident during the week, along Lokoja- Abuja highway while on official duty.
