Senate President, David Mark has expressed that Nigeria at 53 has made appreciable progress worth commending in spite of divergent opinion among the people and the challenges on the journey so far.

David Mark has made this observation in a goodwill message to mark the 53rd Independence anniversary of the country, calling on Nigerians to renew their hope and faith in the country.

He noted that Nigeria has recorded appreciable landmark achievement since the colonial masters left the shores though the country is yet to achieve her dream.

He purported that Nigeria besides the infrastructural developments across the country, also has skilled and qualified manpower in virtually all fields of human endeavor.

The Senate President noted, with pains, the challenges, especially the insecurity situation facing the nation and canvassed for a review of approaches in order to end the menace.

He recalled the setbacks occasioned by the 30- month old civil war fought with blood, tears and sweat as well as the various ethno-religious conflicts and kidnapping and prayed for wise counsel to prevail.

Senator Mark, therefore, implored Nigerians to renew their hope and faith in their capacity and capabilities to rise to a level where citizens could enjoy an internationally acceptable standard of living, thus earning the status of a developed nation.

He also called for the support and cooperation of all Nigerians in the task of nation-building, urging all to be good doctors, good writers, good lawyers or good engineers, to contribute the various quotas in areas of various comparative advantages in order to make the country a better place.
