
The people of Kwara state have been urged to support Governor Abdulfatai Ahmed administration’s effort to raise the state’s Internally Generated Revenue by shunning tax evasion and backing private investors willing to partner with the state in embarking on economic projects.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Communication, Dr Muyideen Akorede who stated this during an interview, said if government is supported in its drive to increase the IGR from the current six hundred million naira to about one point five billion naira, many of the economic bottlenecks in the state would become history.
According to him, when the IGR increases, it will not only increase the federal allocation being the strongest indices, but also empower the state to acquire more loans to embark on many other capital projects for the benefit of the populace. While stating that a desk review revealed a leakage of about five billion naira annually in Kwara state, Akorede said government is at the moment committed to blocking these leakages.
He however urged the people to ignore the administration’s detractors by showing readiness to pay their tax regularly as part of their civic responsibility. Akorede also urged endowed Kwarans to imbibe community spirit by taking up affordable community services rather than waiting for the government at all times.
