Kenya’s Julius Yego is poised to make his country proud as he aims for a a podium finish in Javelin when he enters today's final at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China.

After finishing fourth at the 2013 Championships in Moscow, the Commonwealth Games javelin champion said he wants a podium finish, a feat that is never to be achieved by any Kenyan in the field events. Yego qualified for the final after posting a distance of 84.66 metres.

"My target is podium finish now that I'm in the finals. It will be very difficult because all finalists have qualified on merit but I will give it my best," said Yego, popularly known as the 'Youtube Athlete'.

He added: "Nothing comes easy, I hope I wake up healthy. The weather is also good. This has been a good season for me and it will be good to finish on a high."

Yego, 26, admitted that he has benefitted immensely from his coach Petteri Piironen. "He has been with me here for three days and he has helped me a lot. The training stints I have had in Finland and South Africa have also helped me," said Yego who is the world leader with his 91.39m throw he posted in Birmingham last June.

With Trinidad and Tobago's Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott failing to make it to the final, Yego will battle out with defending and favourite Vítezslav Vesely of Czech Republic, Tero Pitkamaki, German's Andreas Hofman, Japan's Rhoyei Arai and Egypt's Ihad Abdelrahman El-Sayed. Walcott, who is coming back from injury, had a throw of 76.83 and finished a disappointing 5th position.
