Following the United Nations threat of sanctions earlier on Tuesday, South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has finally signed a peace deal with rebels.

He told audience during the signing ceremony on Wednesday in the capital, Juba, that he had reservations about how the mediation was conducted and some of the clauses in the compromise deal.

Meanwhile, Rebel leader Riek Machar had signed the deal last week, but Mr Kiir refused.

The deal is meant to end months of brutal civil war and would see Mr Machar return as vice-president.
