Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan
Following last weekend attack by suspected Boko Haram gunmen in Yobe State, all hands are now on deck to ensure adequate security around schools in Nigeria.
CEOAFRICA.com gathered from sources that part of measures which government may probably consider would include constant patrol around school premises, putting armed soldiers outside schools and guarding school buses.
Our sources also disclosed that President Goodluck Jonathan met senior security aides last Sunday, to discuss how to respond to the latest deadly shift in tactics by the insurgents. At the meeting, they decided to provide special security cover for schools in the North-East and some other places prone to possible attacks. He also directed that this kind of incident should not happen again.
Also, Yobe State government has put up measures to secure school environments in the state. Disclosing this to newsmen, the state Commissioner for Lower Education, Mohammed Lamin, said security agencies must work extra hard to ensure that this kind of incident did not happen again.
”For now, the state government has directed all round security surveillance on all schools across the state. The security agencies need to step up their operations to protect lives and property,” he said.
It would be recalled that gunmen attacked College of Agriculture in Yobe State, killing over 43 students in their hostels.
