The Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, has identified weak health policy at the centre as the bane of Nigeria’s health sector development.

The Governor, who made the observation while receiving National President, Nigerian Medical Association(NMA), Dr Kayode Obembe led executives on a courtesy call at the Government House, Ilorin, expressed optimism that the present government would do all within its power to address the problem.

Governor Ahmed recalled that the immediate past Federal Government handled the issue of health with levity, saying that the problem of improper statistics had affected the sector in no small measure.

Gov. Ahmed also expressed hope that a new policy would be put in place to harmonise the differences with a view to enhancing a well structured and methodically designed healthcare delivery system.

“No country can develop without good health and development premise productivity. So, there cannot be productivity without good health."

He further explained his government’s giant stride in the health sector and promised to strengthen its Community Insurance Health programme in order to achieve universal health coverage.

Gov. Ahmed also promised to improve welfare package of the state’s health personnel, particularly doctors, urging them to key into the state’s new revenue drive.

Meanwhile, Dr. Kayode Obembe applauded the State Government on its health programme, saying "Kwara is on the front line on Community Health Insurance programme."

He also praised the government for its welfare packages for doctors in the state and appealed to the government to implement new template for them in the state.
