The Executive Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, was hosted on Securing Africa; a platform initiated by CEOAFRICA to celebrate the strides of people, upon whose shoulders lies the security of the society.

Gov Okowa spoke on how his administration has saddled itself with the provision of adequate security in every nook and cranny of the State.

The Governor lauded the efforts of the previous administrations in the State with respect to how ethnic frailties among all ethnic groups in the State have been managed.

This he noted, had engendered peace among residents of Delta State and thereby making it peaceful. 

He went further to reiterate the harmony and peaceful co-existence built in everyone, irrespective of tribal and religious affiliations. He ascribed a great chunk of the success to the various security agencies, stating that their professionalism really helped in promoting peace and unity.

Senator Okowa made mention of the Smart Agenda, which has also fostered peace in the state. He stated the need for mutual trust, fairness, justice transparency and equity, while saying that government on its part must be sensitive in all they do.

The people of Delta, according to the Governor, are as well beginning to build on the culture of transparency.

On the role of traditional rulers in the State, the Governor emphasised the importance of according traditional rulers the respect they deserve in the society.

The restiveness of the youth population has also been reduced to the barest minimum, courtesy of the amnesty programme initiated by the late President Musa Yar' adua, among other socio-economic programmes that have been implemented by previous administrations in the State.

The governor also highlighted the positive impact which the Youth Agriculture and Entrepreneurship training has had on the society.

Furthermore, Gov Okowa indicated his preference for State Policing; pointing out that it was practically not possible for the government at the centre to have a full grasp of the security demands of the state as much as the governor would do.

He however acknowledged the partisan motives that could taint State Policing, if allowed to operate. Thus, he made it imperative that should the ambits of State Policing be well defined by the legislative arm of government, the fear of the police being used as political tools would be catered for.

His Excellency, lauded the giant stride of the Delta State Police Command and pledged his administration resolve in partnering with them for secured Delta State.

Gov Okowa also acknowledged the strides that have been made in the health sector. The improved health delivery in the State was evident in the number of qualitative health centres, free maternal health care clinics among other various health projects.

In furtherance of pursuing an all-round development, Gov Okowa noted the technical and vocational boards being put in place to empower the populace economically and socially.

This, he noted, has helped in empowering several youths who were hitherto, redundant.
