65 girls were reportedly killed when the truck they were travelling in to Reed Dance Festival crashed.

 In the wake of an accident that has reportedly claimed the lives of 65 girls, there are calls for Swaziland's King Mswati III to call two days of national mourning and cancel the annual Reed Dance Festival where he's due to select a new wife.

 The Swaziland Solidarity Network says there cannot be dancing at a time where the kingdom is grieving.

 The organisation says the girls were killed when the flatbed truck taking them to the festival crashed into a car on Friday.

 The Swazi government has not yet released an official death toll.

 But the network's Lucky Lukhele says he believes authorities are trying to keep the accident under wraps.

“The high level of security officers who were on the ground when this unfortunate incident happened took it upon themselves after realising that they saw the government threw out a black blanket to cover and not release the news, and reduced the numbers so as to continue to the  Reed Dance Festival.

He says a few security officials have put their lives on the line to ensure information around the deaths have been made public.

“These security officers called us in disbelief, saying we are the only people now that can serve the situation and release the information to the world, and we did that. They risked everything that they had, their lives, and risking to be killed.”
