Sudanese President, Omar al-Bashir
President Omar Al-Bashir has denied that he ordered the shooting of those protesting removal of fuel subsidy in Sudan, accusing unnamed parties seeking to destabilize Sudan of exploiting the events for killing, looting and vandalism.
CEOAFRICA.com gathered that President Bashir made this declaration at a graduation ceremony in the military academy yesterday.
But, there were indications that some of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) members believed the shooting order was made by President Bashir, as over 30 of them sent a memo to him urging that the price of fuel should be reverted.
President Bashir said that despite his government’s huge efforts to explain the reasons behind the new economic measures, those who seek to cause harm exploited the freedom of peaceful expression to kill people and destroy properties.
He added that secession of South Sudan had a negative impact on the situation in Blue Nile and South Kordofan state, pointing to the agreements reached with Juba to stop support for rebel groups in both states.
