Chief Nyesom Wike, the Supervising Minister of Education is scheduled to meet with the leaders of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), to deliberate on the union threat of going on a solidarity strike.

It would be recalled that the union had after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, on September 26, threatened to join the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), in a two weeks solidarity strike after which it will go on total strike if Federal Government fails to meet the ASUU demands.

However, the development had jerked the minister, who scheduled the meeting with the NUT executive “to find out what their problem is with the ASUU strike.”

The Minister’s word went thus, “When states failed to pay the minimum wage for teachers and they went on strike, ASUU did not join them. The NUT takes care of basic and secondary teachers’ interests, so it has no business with ASUU.”
