Nigerian Army reiterates commitment to combat terrorism

The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to combat security

challenges in any part of the country.

  

The Chief of Army administration, Major General Muhammed Abubakar, said the

Army would continue to organise series of training to help in combating

security challenges for its personnel.

  

Speaking at the opening of a two-day training period for officers under the

2 Division formations Odogbo, Ibadan, he noted that the country was

presently undergoing transformation process.

"Our nation is currently undergoing a transformation process which comes

along with a number of contemporary challenges in terms of physical and

human security".

  

"The Nigerian Army is saddled with the responsibility to play leading role

in the myriad of security challenges facing the nation" he said.

He commended the division towards contributing troops to some of the

internal security operations nationwide.

  

He also said that the entire Nigerian Army troops have done very well and

are expected to maintain or improve on the performance as we progressively

defeat the current security threats.

 

The guest lecturer, Dr Dhikrullah Yagboyaju, a senior lecturer in the

Political Science Department of the University of Ibadan, attributed

injustice, unemployment and leadership failure as the root cause of terrorism.

 

Speaking on the topic entitled "The Emerging Terrorist Image in Nigeria:

Implications and Possible Remedies", he said the factors mentioned above

had over the years brought about frustration and aggression which has led

to the current security challenges in the country.
