Sokoto State government has offered the sum of N1 billion agricultural loans for the benefit of about 7,000 cassava farmers towards the improvement cassava in the state.
According to the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Arzika Tureta, the N1 billion free loan would be disbursed to cassava farmers without any interest attached.
He also disclosed the initiative was part of the government efforts to enhance cassava production for local consumption and export.
He further revealed that a committee had been set up to screen the beneficiaries, in order to ensure that only genuine farmers benefit from the loan.
The commissioner however warned the cassava against giving money to any body to help them secure the loan but ensure to go through the appropriate channel to avoid them being duped by crooks.
