
The Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, has directed the State Assets Recovery Committee to beam its searchlight on the State Universal Basic Education Board, Ministry for Local Government Affairs and the Central Bank of Nigeria's two billion naira loan for Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, with a view to finding out the level of rot.
The Assest Recovery Committee was set up by Gov Abubakar upon assumption of office to locate and recover all government properties allegedly looted by officials of the previous government.
The Governor gave the directive on Saturday, while giving the scorecard of the first 100 days in office of his administration during a state wide broadcast to the people of the state.
He said that the recovery committee, which attracted a state wide applause, was successful in locating the state owned aircraft in Morocco.
"The State Assets Recovery Committee has gathered a state wide applause for the recovery of huge number of vehicles, generating sets, transformers and other properties that had been frit away or turned into personal property by officials of the previous government and their cohorts. Several plots of lands arbitrarily allocated to individuals had also been recovered.
"Consequent upon this great feat, our government has broaden the terms of engagement of the committee and accordingly mandated it to glow its searchlight on the State's Universal Basic Education Board, Ministry for Local Government Affairs and the Central Bank of Nigeria's two billion naira Small and Medium Scale Enterprise loan," he said.
Governor Abubakar said that shortly after taking over power, his government was able to resolve numerous industrial disputes and strikes, including that of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Staff and students of Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic and the College of Agriculture.
According to him, the government intervened to resolve the dispute between resident doctors and the Management of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi.
"We've also been able to to settle a large chunk of salary arrears as a mark of commitment to the welfare of our workers," adding that "the government will soon undertake a total overhaul of the state civil service."
Abubakar told the people of Bauchi in his broadcast that his recent visit to the Czech Republic was to seek for partnership to revamp the agricultural sector so as to create jobs for the teeming unemployed youths in the state.
"On hajj, the government was able to save about one billion naira from negotiations of the accommodation of the pilgrims and other expenses normally incurred by the past administration.
"I appeal to the people of the state to be patient with us as we clean the rot left by the previous government," he said.
