The Dithubaruba Cultural Festival was not just all for the frills and thrills.
Famous for endorsing and appreciating the diverse cultural practices in Kweneng District, the festival was laced with songs and dance as well as traditional cuisine. Some organisations took advantage of the festival to showcase their products.
Among them was the Diamond Control Awareness Team (DCAT), which is a multidisciplinary committee that formed one of the leverage arms of the main diamond control team.
At Dithubaruba, the team saw interacted with the public and sensitised them about diamond protection and the consequences of illegal diamond dealings.
Masego Malila, who was part of the team, said as a voluntary DCAT member, she hoped to bring the message closer to the public.
She stated that many nations in Africa had been sidelined in the global diamond trade because of dealing in blood diamonds and by joining DCAT, she hoped she would make a difference and see to it that Botswana was never covered by this dark cloud.
