Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has tasked African Union (AU) leaders to find lasting solution to illegal migration of Africans to Europe. Obasanjo said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on Monday.
He advocated that the leaders should come up with a policy that would stem the tide of African youths migrating to European countries through the Mediterranean Sea.
Obasanjo noted that lack of effective governance being experienced in some African countries necessitated the movements of Africans to Europe. He lamented the hardships and wave of deaths of African youths who are desperate to seek for greener pasture in Europe.
The former president explained that the only solution to massive migration of African youths is for African leaders to eliminate conflict and abject poverty in the continent. He said creation of employment opportunities in some of the countries where migrants originate from would bring about solution to the problem.
