From Zambia, CEOAFRICA.com gathered that the Ndola High Court has sentenced four men to 10 years imprisonment each with hard labour for beating a friend to death over an illicit brew commonly known as ‘Kachasu’ during a drinking spree.

It was revealed by our sources that the Oliver Bwalya, 36, Borniface Musonda, 27, Peter Kachali, 26 and Erickson Lesa Nkole, 26, were found guilty and sentenced to jail by High Court Judge Munalula Lisimba.

The prosecution called six witnesses, with one of them Delfista Bulaya telling the court that the four came to buy Kachasu from her. She said after some times, she heard some noise and when she went to check, she found out that the four accused were beating the deceased with an iron bar, fists and kicks. The witness said the four told her that they were beating the deceased he attempted to drink all the beer they bought.

In mitigation, the four pleaded for lenience through their lawyer and told the court that they were remorseful and that they had learnt a lesson while in detention.

Justice Munalula Lisimba sentenced them to ten years in prison each, beginning from December 28 last year when they were arrested and put in custody.
