The Batswapong cultural celebration which was scheduled for August 29 in Moremi was not held due to financial constraints and lack of support from Batswapong.
The chairperson of Lentswe la Batswapong committee, Shine Namane said it was disappointing that it was the first time that their annual cultural celebration failed since 2009.
Namane explained that the committee wrote letters to different companies requesting for sponsorship, but that they did not get any positive response.
He added that invitation letters to all Tswapong villages requesting for assistance in the preparations for the event were sent, but that there was no positive response.
He said he was expecting this year's celebration to be bigger and better because Moremi was one of the places where the rich history of Tswapong was found.
"The burial place of the great Kgosi Mapulane, Moremi Gorge and caves are some of our heritages that could also be used as a source of income in our area," he said.
He said traditional artifacts such as serala, traditional house closed with setata, attire, games and food among others were to be showcased during the day.
The chairperson urged Batswapong to come together and take their culture to greater heights.
He said the old generation should respect and preserve the beauty of Setswapong culture so that the new generation could learn from them.
He further stated that culture was a pivotal tool in a child's upbringing as it moulds them into responsible citizens.
He said the committee was formed with the intention to promote Setswapong culture every year in different villages.
The chairperson pleaded with Batswapong to work together in order to achieve the desired goals.
