Late Former Rivers State Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry
CEOAFRICA.com gathered from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, that the immediate past Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry, is dead.
Sources revealed that Harry, who represented Degema Constituency in Rivers State, died in Algiers, the capital of Algeria, when he was being flown to France for medical treatment. He was said to be suffering from heart failure.
His remains is still in Algiers at the time of this report because the Mayor of the City is expected to approve the release of his body.
Further facts emerges that Harry slumped in the evening of October 1 while playing table tennis at the Tennis Section of the Port Harcourt Sports Club, and was immediately rushed to a private hospital in the city where the medical director-in-charge later referred him Kesley Harrison Hospital in Port Harcourt, before arrangement was made for him to be flown abroad for treatment in France.
Rt. Hon Tonye Harry was 47 years old before his death. He was the deputy speaker of the state's Assembly between 1999-2007, and became Speaker of the House between 2007-2011.
