Court Remands 17-Year Old Man in Prison For Sexually Abusing a 7-Year Old Girl in Sierra Leone

A Freetown Magistrate Court has remanded a 17-year old man at the maximum security prison on Pademba Road, for allegedly defying a 7-year old girl.

According to what CEOAFRICA.com gathered from sources, Ibrahim Kannah was arraigned on one count of sexual penetration of a child, contrary to section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act No.12 of 2012.

The particulars of the offence indicated that the accused on a date around August 1, 2013 at the Kingtom Police barracks, sexually penetrated a girl under the age of 18 years.

The Prosecutor, Detective Police Constable 11677 Ibrahim Sorie Conteh, of the Family Support Unit at the New England Police Station, told the court that he recognized the accused and recalled on September 2 while on duty, when one Kadiatu Samura accompanied her daughter to the Unit to report about an alleged sexual penetration.

He testified that on the same date, he and DRC 7662 Fofanah M. issued a medical report to the allgeded victim’s mother to enable her seek medical attention at the Princess Christian Maternity Hospital –cottage in Rainbow Centre, Fourah Bay Road.

Furthermore, the prosecutor said on September 3, he obtained statement from the accused person in Krio which was recorded in English.

He said the statement was read over to the accused, who admitted same to be true and correct, and that it was witnessed by DPC Fofanah M. The police detective said he, the victim’s mother and the victim visited the alleged scene of crime.

The matter has been adjourned till October 8, for further hearing.
