President Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan declared he has pardoned the main opposition leader, Lam Akol Ajawin, and other senior military leaders accused of sabotage, CEOAFRICA.com gathered.

In subsequent orders he issued and broadcast on the state-run SSTV, Kiir also pardoned Maj. Gen. Gabriel Tanginye, Maj. Gen. Gatwech Dual, Maj. Gen. Mabor Dhol and Maj. Gen. Gatwech Jok as well as Peter Abdel-Rahman Sule.

Reasons why the president took the decision is yet unknown despite his resistance to the calls in the past that asked him to pardon the leaders whom he accused of trying to sabotage his government.

Our source disclosed that the generals have been in prison for the last one year in the capital, Juba.
